Positive Ways to Start your Day

Since we've talked about ending our day one a positive note we thought talking about how to start it was equally important. Waking up and looking at all of the things we have to do in our day can make us feel even groggier and make dragging ourselves out of bed even harder.

Starting your day off on a positive note with easy little tasks can help your entire day feel different and better. For those of us who aren't morning people or those who just need an extra boost here are some ideas on things you can do to help you kick start your day the right way. 

Be Grateful

 When you first get up take a few minutes and find something you're grateful for - the weather, how warm the bed feels, the view from your window, something fun you have planned for the day. Anything. Just take some time and focus your energy on the good things in your life.

To make this even better congratulate yourself on something - how kind you are to your friends, how well you do your work anything that makes you feel proud of yourself. 

Stretch 

After you've found something to be grateful for, stretch while you're still in bed. As well as giving a few extra appreciated moments in bed stretching your limbs as much as you can will trigger the release of dopamine - the hormone that boosts your mood, energy and self-esteem. 

Water

After a long nights sleep your body will be left feeling dehydrated. Drink a glass of water will help rehydrate you as well as helping with dehydration as well as many other benefits including your skin and digestion. Adding different things to it like lemon or even cinnamon will add to the benefits and you can even drink it warm if you want - just like your caffeine without the nasty side effects. 

Walking 

If you do have time spare going for a walk can be a huge benefit. As a form of exercise this will help release your endorphins 'the happy hormone'. Being outside will also help skin intake its daily amount of vitamin D strengthening your bones and immune system. 

Breakfast

The most commonly skipped meal is possibly the most important. It gives you the energy you need for the day and can help set your mood off in the right direction. Things like toast and oats or yogurt and fruits will help boost you and get you to dinner in a good mood.

Kindness

Share the good feeling - living in a world where everyone can be feeling as stressed or as run down as you do sharing an act of kindness can really help pass on the good feelings. It can also be easier than you think smile at someone walking past you if you for a walk, hold the door open for someone offer your seat on the bus, ask if someone needs help at if you have a minute. 

Set a Goal

Think of something you want to achieve by the end of the day and stick to it. This can be big or small - be kind to someone on your walk, if you're going to work or volunteering and have a task finish it. This will give you sense of motivation at the beginning of your day and then a sense of achievement when you've completed it. 

Get Organized

Whether it's a to do list in your head or grabbing a pad of paper and writing down things that flicker through your head that you want to do it helps you feel more organized. Being able to tick things off of your list can help you achieve them as when you tick the first one off the rest will quickly follow. 

But remember even if you don't manage to tick off every single thing. It doesn't matter. You can put it on tomorrows. What matters is what you have achieved and how well you did. 

Plan something fun for the end of the day 

One of my favourite times of the day is when I get into bed and I know me and my husband are going to turn the computer off and put our phones down (more me) and watch something together. It also means I have something to look forward to every day. It doesn't have to be this either some people look forward to their favourite meal at the end of the day or playing an instrument to help relax them or talking to a friend. Just plan something you enjoy for the end of every day; sometimes it can be small and sometimes it can be big just as long as you enjoy it. This will help you look forward to that time all day and chances are you'll have a smile on your face for most of the day.
